How to Choose the Right Swim Parka Size for Your Kids
A swim parka that's the wrong size defeats the purpose. Too big, and cold air gets in around the neck and wrists. Too small, and it won't zip up over a wet swimsuit or fit comfortably after a big growth spurt. Here's how to get it right the first time.
Why swim parka sizing is different to regular jacket sizing
A swim parka is worn over a wet swimsuit, straight out of the pool - so it needs a bit more room than a normal jacket to pull on easily with damp arms and legs. It also needs to sit close enough at the neck, cuffs and hem to actually trap warmth. That's a different fit than a school jacket bought with a year of growing room in mind.
How to measure your child
The most reliable method isn't age - it's height and chest measurement. Stand your child against a wall, measure height in centimetres, and measure around the fullest part of the chest with arms relaxed. Cross-check both numbers against the chart below rather than relying on age alone - kids on the tall or petite side for their age will often size up or down from what their birthday suggests.

Between two sizes? Here's the rule of thumb
If your child measures right on the border of two sizes, size up. A swim parka that's slightly roomy still works well and leaves room to grow into the next swim season; one that's slightly tight is uncomfortable over a wet costume and harder to zip one-handed at pickup time. The removable sleeves also mean a slightly bigger parka still works fine as a snug summer vest.
Signs you've got the size wrong
Too small: the two-way zip is a struggle to close, the cuffs dig in, or your child avoids wearing it. Too big: cold air gets in at the neck and the hem sits well past the hips, so it doesn't hold warmth after a swim.
